A few years back I had a Serbian client.
Big, fit, raw-boned bastard with a vice-like handshake and a deep, quiet voice. I used to look into his cold, dead, handsome eyes and wonder how many of The Enemy he'd strangled to death in combat during the Balkan war. I liked to imagine he would deliberately discard his machine gun and get to work with his hands, au naturel.
There was a frisson between us. I won't lie.
